One upsides of the rubbish-strewn beaches on the Pearl River delta is the rubbish. Edward, who is always finding something, excelled on Monday with his find of a full can of American beer. It’s waiting in the cupboard for a suitable moment…
Actually, we had a lovely couple of days hiking on Lantau – just the family which was very nice. Here are a few photos of the walk.
And some photos of the Chinese New Year street parade.
Well Uncle Phil got in before me but that doesn’t stop us from adding some photos to our blog. Hong Kong is a
surprising place. It still amazes us how much bush there is and how much scope for outdoor activities.
We were very appreciative of the guided tour of Lantau the other weekend by Phil and Sue Warner who came to Crossroads from Berowra about three years ago and, together run a substantial part of Crossroads operations.
Public transport is great here. To get to our destination we took a bus, then the “light rail”, a ferry, the cable car and then another bus. And it’s all pretty good value. The hardest thing to get is a clear day but it was still worth the effort to take the ride up to the Big Buddha. Good to see that a new Starbucks Coffee has opened there as a service to worshippers.
Then took the bus down the nauseously winding road to the fishing town of Tai 0. They are keen to protect their industry so there’s a big sign telling you how not to fish. Spoils the fun for everybody.
One of the highlights of the day was a swim in a clean, fresh pool at the base of a waterfall. You would only find it with some local knowledge so thanks Phil and Sue. It was so refreshing and almost felt like a Kanangra Walls canyon plunge pool. mmmmm…
Here are a few more photos on Google..

Bye,
Edward
We’ve been spending time over the past few days getting organised with our February newsletter. Finally we’ve sent it out. If you didn’t get one and would like to be added to our mailing list please email us (nev@theharrisons.net or vivien@theharrisons.net).
It’s always interesting at Crossroads. We each here have our particular roles: Vivien is working here way through the long list of daily applications for goods. These needy organisations seem to hear about Crossroads via word of mouth and it’s such a shame that we can’t get supplies to all of them. Plenty of goods come in each day but we just don’t have enough people to get them out the door to all the places we’d like. So if you have a few weeks spare…there is a whole range of positions open. The biggest need at the moment is for a volunteer teacher to assist with the little school that has doubled in size in the last month. Two families arrived (including us). It’s great though. There is a lovely buzz going in the classroom with allthese lovely children.
